Weekly Wisdom Easter Special – Good Eggs, Bad Eggs

Welcome to the latest of Steve’s Weekly Wisdom videos! This week, we’re bringing you a special egg-themed Easter edition.

The humble egg has been a cornerstone of the human diet for generations. Delicious poached, scrambled, fried or in an omelette, they are a trusty, tasty staple – and they’ve even spawned sayings like “a good egg” to refer to a kind, honest person.

Now, as people stock up to feed their families during the lockdown, many homes have more eggs than ever! This can make telling your fresh, tasty eggs from the old, bad ones increasingly difficult. After all, eggs only go rotten on the inside – the shells always look the same. And nobody wants to risk breaking a bad egg, especially not when we’re all stuck inside our homes.

But luckily, there’s a clever way of telling the good eggs from the bad ones in one easy step.

All you need is a tub of water and the eggs you want to test. Simply place the eggs into the water and see if they sink to the bottom, or float on top. Good eggs sink, meaning they’re safe to eat, while bad eggs float on the water’s surface.

But if you find a bad egg, don’t just throw it away.

Instead, with Easter round the corner and parents looking for ways to entertain and homeschool children, bad eggs make excellent arts and crafts resources. Simply blow the egg, removing the yolk and white through a small pinhole, then decorate the shell for Easter.
